This Saturday see’s Southampton travel up to The John Smith stadium to Play Huddersfield Town in the Premier League.
Ahead of Saturday’s game, I spoke to Josh who is an avid Huddersfield fan. I was curious as to his thoughts on this game, especially as the terriers have won two on the trot and could give Southampton a run for their money on Saturday.
“Being back in the big time is an amazing feeling, I’m a relatively young fan and I can feel the whole buzz around the place and the older fans who have been and followed the team while we were in the doldrums. Growing up in Leeds and seeing the team score that winning penalty filled me up with so much joy I cried.”
He then went on to say:
“These two first games have shown our defensive qualities and our attacking ones also. Againts Palace we had more clear cut chances and took them extremely well, the game against Newcastle was a different story, we didn’t get too many chances but when we got one, Aaron Mooy stuck it away so it was all good. As for staying up, If we can pick up positive results against the teams around us, we have a good chance.”
I then asked him about Saturday’s game in particular and what he thinks Southampton have to do to get a result.
“If Southampton do their homework on us and contain us we could struggle like we did at times last year, but Wagner knows when he has to change his style and the intensity we play at, Southampton will need to come here with a specific game plan or I believe we could catch you cold and possibly get at least a draw out of you.”
I proceeded to ask him who should Southampton be wary of in this match.
“Our main threats will definitely come in the bank of 3 behind Mouniè in Kachunga, Palmer and Ince. Mooy or Billing will usually venture up to support them and they both have a cracking shot on them, shown by Mooy’s goal on Sunday. Balls will be played towards Mounie’s head regularly so he can bring the 3 players behind him into play and make them extremely effective.”
On the other hand I wanted to know who he thought Saints’ main danger-men would be.
“I imagine your main threat will come from your flanks in Redmond and Tadic. Also we will need to look out for free kicks because I’ve seen Ward-Prowse and he can really strike a dead ball, so they would be the things I would look out for.
That was all from my chat with Josh, you can find him on Twitter: @Madmanmooy. Hopefully Southampton can pick up where they left off against West Ham and get three points on Saturday.
