Gazzaniga departs for Spurs

Paulo Gazzaniga has left Southampton to join up with former manager Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of around £2 million, it has been announced.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper, who was signed by Nigel Adkins upon the Saints’ promotion back to the Premier League in 2012, leaves St Mary’s after making just 23 appearances for the club.

Gazzaniga will again link up with fellow-Argentine Pochettino after the Spurs manager coached him at Southampton during his 16-month tenure.

The departure of the shot-stopper, who spent last season on loan at Spanish second tier club Rayo Vallecano, leaves Fraser Forster, Alex McCarthy and Stuart Taylor as goalkeeping options for Mauricio Pellegrino as well as youngster Jack Rose who joined from West Brom last week.
