Southampton left-back Matt Targett has signed a new five-year deal, the club has announced.
The 21-year-old, who has performed well in pre-season, is the latest player to sign a new contract this Summer following fellow youngsters Sam Gallagher, Jack Stephens and Callum Slattery, as well as veteran goalkeeper Stuart Taylor.
Targett, whose season was cut short by injury in October last year, has been seen by many as third-choice left-back behind Ryan Bertrand and Sam McQueen but new manager Mauricio Pellegrino has seemed to prefer playing McQueen more as a left-winger during pre-season.
The England under-21 international has been at the club since the age of eight and has so far made 40 appearances for the Saints.
