Is Munir on his way to Southampton ?

Southampton have rumoured to be interested in Barcelona forward, Munir.

21-year-old attacker Munir El Haddadi, also known as Munir, has been at Barcelona since 2011 but rumours say he could be leaving The Nou Camp this summer.

Other clubs such as Crystal Palace,West Ham and even Roma are interested in signing the young Spaniard, but Italian side Roma have recently pulled out of negotionations after they were not interested in taking part in a bidding war with the Spanish giants, according to Catalan Daily Sport.

After the departure of Jay Rodriguez earlier this month, Southampton currently have four strikers at the club. Fans would argue that we have options up front and don’t need to spend money in that area, but our statistics from last season say otherwise. Southampton managed to score 41 goals last season, averaging at only just one goal per game. For a side that wants to be pushing for top eight, it’s frankly not good enough. Munir would offer an attacking option that Southampton do not currently have, which could be the key to getting us more goals next season.

I do question the signing, as I said we already have four strikers here and it seems Mauricio Pellegrino wants to play a 4-3-2-1 which means if we did sign Munir, he’d be competing with four other players for that one attacking role.

As Roma have now pulled out of discussions to sign Munir, it will be interesting to see if he leaves the club at all. On paper the better move for him would be to join Southampton. We are renowned for turning young talent into top quality players and what could West Ham and Crystal Palace offer him that Saints can’t ?

Munir El Haddadi would be someone I would be interested in signing but I just don’t see it happening, which is a shame.
