Southampton have sold striker Jay Rodriguez to fellow Premier League club West Bromwich Albion for fee of around £12 million.
The Burnley-born forward scored 35 goals in 126 appearances and leaves after serving the Saints for five years.
The once-capped England international saw the second half of his Saints career blighted by injuries after he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Manchester City, just two months before the 2014 World Cup which Rodriguez had been tipped to go to with the Three Lions squad.
Rodriguez’s best season at St Mary’s came in 2013-14 under Mauricio Pochettino when he scored 17 goals in 39 games, a run of form which earned his England debut against Chile in a Wembley friendly.
The 27-year-old’s departure means new manager Mauricio Pellegrino is left with Manolo Gabbiadini, Charlie Austin, Shane Long and Sam Gallagher, who signed a new four-year contract yesterday, as his first team attacking options.
