Stephens signs long-term contract

Southampton have announced that defender Jack Stephens has signed a new five-year deal.

The 23-year-old centre back, who filled in admirably for the injured Virgil Van Dijk in the second half of last season, is now set to stay at the club until 2022.

He follows in the footsteps of fellow youngster Sam Gallagher who put pen to a paper on a four-year deal earlier on Saturday.

Stephens, who said Southampton ‘feels like home’ after signing his new deal, is likely to be joined by Polish centre-back Jan Bednarek who is set to sign for the club imminently.
