Southampton have announced the signing of Polish defender Jan Bednarek from Lech Poznan for an undisclosed fee.
The centre-back signs on a five-year deal to boost new manager Mauricio Pellegrino’s defensive options following the January sale of club captain José Fonte and release of Uruguayan Martín Cáceres.
The signing, which follows on from news that both youngsters Sam Gallagher and Jack Stephens have signed long-term contracts, is Pellegrino’s first since joining the Saints as manager last week.
The 21-year-old is believed to have signed for in the region of £5 million and was part of Poland’s Under-21 squad that took part in the U21 European Championships which Germany won last night.
