Sam Gallagher has signed a new four-year contract at Southampton, the club has announced.
The 6ft 4in striker has extended his deal to 2021 after a season-long loan in the Championship at Blackburn Rovers where he managed to score 12 goals for a team that were relegated to League One on the final day.
Gallagher has expressed his delight at the deal as he aims to break into the Saints first-team which he last managed to do in 2014 under Mauricio Pochettino.
The 21-year-old adds to new manager Mauricio Pellegrino’s attacking options with forward Jay Rodriguez expected to leave for West Bromwich Albion in a £12 million deal which could rise £15 million.
In addition to Gallagher signing a new contract, there are reports that fellow youngster Jack Stephens could also be putting pen to paper on an extension after a fine second half of the season filling in for the injured Virgil Van Dijk.
