Jan Bednarek, who is he? Signing with the Saints the U21 Polish defender looks to be set and ready for a rollercoaster of a season down on the south coast.
Bednarek has come up from the U16’s with Poland to now recently playing for them at the U21 European Championships, who finished bottom of their group. Bednarek was one of Poland’s most important players during their campaign at the U21 European Championship and will certainly be one to look out for in the future.
Bednarek has played in Poland for Lech Poznań and was on loan to Górnik Łęczna during the 2015/16 season. He has played a total of 31 games for Lech Poznań, scoring 1 goal for them in all competitions. Bednarek came from the Lech Poznań’s youth squad and has currently reached the first team with some outstanding performances.
The young, composed defender would be a vital part to our squad with Caceres leaving earlier on in the window. On the ball he is a strong, tall, center-back, who is very calm and composed on the ball.
He is quick to get down and isn’t afraid to go into any challenge. From watching the European Championship he does look like he needs an experienced partnership at the back, but with Van Dijk staying who knows what he could make of Bednarek.

Checked him out a bit more and, yes, I think he is definitely worth a shot at that price!
He definately looks like a player that Southampton can improve! Especially being in a back line partnership with VVD!
